Traktor Catalog Number

I use MP3TAG to manage all my collection and tag it. I'm facing an issue (probably because of Traktor), when importing my collection to Traktor software.

The catalog no column of Traktor is empty while my catalog ID tag are set.

I tried to create a catalognumber, catalogno, catalog# tag but nothing seems to be read.

Am I the only one facing this ?

THanks

The easiest way is to enter data in Traktor, make sure the data is actually saved in the file's metadata, then look at the file in MP3tag and the extended tags dialogue. There you find the field name.
Then use in MP3tag this field name to see the data in traktor.

The thing is this specific metadata is not written in the file unlike others which are working.

Have you seen the data in any other file?
If so: what do these files show in the extended tags dialogue?
If Traktor refuses to write that data and somehow also does not read it from tags, I would assume that this has nothing to do with tagging but with the internal functions of Traktor.

I have the same issue. Traktor write all fields and I can see them in mp3tag. But I cannot find the field Catalog No in mp3tag. I suppose it must be another name or, maybe, there is a way to write a field manually. I don't know...

I have realized today that Label in Traktor is Publisher in mp3tag

I have been testing with some files and I have a solution: create a new field with value CATALOG NUMBER. It works for me. I have checked with mp3 files prewritten in Traktor and now mp3tag read the field and its value.

Hi. Some years later... always the same problem. It works with m4a but not with mp3. I can't see the Catalog No from Traktor on mp3tag.
Any solution ?

If you press Alt+T in Mp3tag on a track where you have added the Catalog No in Traktor you can't see any tag containing your information?

BTW: Please don't crosspost your questions. Not even in Mac and the Windows areas for Mp3tag. If you are using Mp3tag on Mac, please stick with the Mac - Mp3tag Community part, thanks.

Thks for very quick answer.
I just test with other files & no, nothing corresponding in the extended tag (Cmd T)

sorry for crosspost. I'm on mac version & didn't pay attention of this sorry

Which version of "Traktor" are you using exactly?

My traktor version is Traktor Pro v 3.11.1 17

A quick test shows:
Traktor Pro v3.10 writes the catalog number only in a non-readable format into a mp3 file.
Traktor Pro v3.10 writes the catalog number as a standard tag CATALOGNUMBER in a m4a file:

Then I repeated my test from here and it is still valid vor Traktor Pro v3.10:
Traktor writes the catalog number only in a proprietary (not public known) format into mp3 files:

There is nothing you can do other then ask Native Instruments, why they use that prorietary format instead of the widely support standard tags.

I can not confirm that behaviour with Traktor Pro v3.10.

I have added a tag called CATALOGNUMBER into a mp3 file and filled a content like 12345-Mp3tag.
This is visible in Mp3tag.
Whatever I do in Traktor Pro v3.10, I can not get Traktor to read and display this value.
I can also not let Traktor Pro v3.10 overwrite any value in the tag CATALOGNUMBER for a mp3 file.

@s.coronel could you please confirm that this should work for a mp3 file and Traktor Pro v3.x?

Ok, Thanks a lot for this investigation. It's then normal that it doesn't work.
I'll create a ticket to Native Instrument about this (Without any hope...

I've exactly the same behaviour than you about the CATALOGNUMBER tag

I think Traktor only stores this information in it's Collection.nml - it does not store it as a tag in the actual .mp3 file itself.

@Patch It IS stored inside mp3, otherwise the linked browser tool could not read and show it. The mp3 file was the only file I have tested with the tool, without any access to an *.nml or other traktor files.

In my further tests neither for FLAC nor for MP3 files the CATALOGNUMBER was written back into the files as standard tag.
For MP4 or M4A files, the CATALOGNUMBER was written as expected.

I don't know why Native Instruments does not handle all the music formats the same way.
Would be very helpful, if you could let us know what Native Instruments wrote in its answer.

To be sure, I double checked your comment.

You are right, there is a XML file called collection.nml in the path
%userprofile%\documents\Native Instruments\Traktor 3.11.x
and it is true that this file includes the CATALOGNUMBER for FLAC, MP3, MP4 and M4A
(Traktor is naming it CATALOG_NO in the XML file).

But as said above:
The CATALOGNUMBER is stored inside the MP3 file in a PRIV frame called TRAKTOR4. This PRIV frame can be read by the linked online tool, but not from Mp3tag.
If you look carefully, you can also detect it in a ordinary text editor like Notepad++.
The areas outlined in red color shows the GLTC (invers for CTLG) and the value 12345-Mp3tag

I don't see why Native Instrument "protect" the CATALOGNUMBER this proprietary way.
I understand it, if they do that for Traktor specific values, but not for standard metadata tags and values.

Maybe someone with contacts to Native Instruments could ask them, where they see an advantage to not export the standard values into standard tags for the most common music formats like FLAC or MP3 (beside the already supported MP4 and M4A).
