Album Artist missing on some tracks

For some files “Album Artist” is blank. However, when I look at the same file in Windows Explorer and also Tag & Rename, the Album Artist is shown correctly. On most files Album Artist is shown correctly. This issue seems to exist for complete albums.

I am new to this product, so maybe I’m doing something wrong

What kind of files are the ones without album artist?
Do these files have APE tags?

Thank you for your reply. The files are .flac music files. The tag column shows FLAC (FLAC). Other files have that same tag, and also include the Album Artist.

Please check whether the field has a mapping for flac files between ALBUMARTIST (one word) and ALBUM ARTIST (with a space in between).
Also, check the extended tags dialogue Alt-T for the currently used field name. The name should be ALBUMARTIST.

When I select Alt-T, I see a box with ALBUM, ALBUM ARTIST, GENRE, etc.. The ALBUM ARTIST data field here is correct! The data in the ALBUM ARTIST column for this track is still blank. Strange!

I think that the column and tag panel field definition reference the field ALBUMARTIST (one word).
You could apply a mapping if you want to keep the field name with the space:

Otherwise I would copy the data from ALBUM ARTIST to ALBUMARTIST and delete ALBUM ARTIST.

Thank you, but I don’t see ALBUMARTIST anywhere (i.e. as one word). I do have the APEv2 mapping above.

Also, most of the music works as expected, it’s just some albums. I have a lot of music tagged this way.

The APE mapping is not the import one but the VorbisComment one ...
You would have to check the column definition via right-click on the column header>Customize Column, navigate to the column that shows the album artist and see whether it looks like this:

That is sort of bad news: if you have a field ALBUM ARTIST but try to display ALBUMARTIST then you do not see any data as ALBUMARTIST is not there.
You could (testwise) add another column that has as
Value: $meta_sep(album artist,\\)
and see whether the missing data appears.

Thank you. What is confusing me is that I have 20,000 files and 95% of them have the Album Artist in mp3tag correctly, and the others are blank, and as far as I can see there’s no difference between those that have it and those that don’t. Also Windows Explorer shows Album Artist correctly.

Screenshots or sample files help a lot in such cases.
Did you try to create the extra column?
What was the result?

Thank for that screenshot of the extended tags.
Now please create a new column that uses
Value: %album artist%
and see if the data appears.

The Album Artist data has now appeared in the new column, but not in the field on the left (where you edit)

You would have to add a field in the tag panel as well that referenced ALBUM ARTIST.

Or you apply a mapping as described here:

Or you copy the contents from ALBUM ARTIST to ALBUMARTIST and remove ALBUM ARTIST. But in any case I would reduce the number of fields for this data.

Upon closer inspection, while what were blank fields now have data. However, the new column now has blanks, where the original column has data.

I now have the new column ALBUMARTIST as you suggested. The original column is Album Artist. For some files the data is the same, for some files, there is data in the original column, and for others, the data in the new column is blank
