Can this be done? I have files with catalog numbers in the catalog field. Then the work is in the work field, but opens with the catalog numbers. So I want all the info in the catalog field to be removed from the work field.
A screenshot of the Enhanced tag editor of an example file would be helpful here. Essentially you are asking if the contents of one field (Catalog) can be reomved from another field (Work)?
Yes, that is exactly what I need.
Please press Alt + T on one of those files and show us in a screenshot the details of the Extended Tags window.
This way we can tell you which solutions will work best for you.
Maybe this topic can help you too:
I can't post a screenshot. all I need is a wya to dleete the first 'word', or anything up to and including the first space, of the work field.
You can find the instructions how to create and post a screenshot here.
Without a real example it's just "guessing" what may work.
Why is that? You have asked for support in the past and said the same thing when asked for a screenshot to help clarify what you are seeking. A screenshot provides a full picture of what you are working with, without anyone here guessing.
I have very clearly pointed out what I need and will do so again. I need a way to remove everything up until and including the first space character in the work field. Wh yis this not enough?
There are so many threads in this forum that deal with the problem of the removal of the first couple of characters, e.g. here:
and if that does not help, use the search function or have a look at the documentation.
That information should help to solve your general problem.
If you need a more specific help, then much more specific information from your side would be required as in such cases, to my experience, every character counts.
I could think of an alternative approach with
$replace(%work%,%catalognumber% ,)
But as you have not mentioned the field names, this is just guess work.
Because in almost all cases there ends up being additional details missed. A screenshot is a simple tool to make sure all of these details are captured.
In your example you claim there is simply a catalog number followed by a space, then all remaining text is to remain in the Work field.
BUT questions;
- Are there any other characters besides the first space like a dash, slash, or others?
- Does the catalog number contain any space characters?
- Are you filtering a list so this action will only be done to files that actually have this catalog number in the Work field? You certainly don't want to run some action like this on all of your files if they don't have this catalog number in front.
Regarding screenshots:
@bollemanneke if the reason you 'can't post a screenshot' is somehow related to the contents of what such a screenshot might show, an edited screenshot -as long as enough information for your question is provided- will suffice.
Marking, blurring, cropping, etc. is allowed.
