Moving covers to network drive with an action

Good Morning,

i having a problem with moving my covers to a network drive. my action is

format value
field _directory
string \mh\y

my problem is that i don't know what i need to put after \mh\y to only move the cover, i now when i do this action it's oullung the mp3 file itself. so can someone help with to comman i need to just pull the jpg. file? Thank You DP

If this is an embedded picture, use an action of the type "Export cover to file"

Use as Format string the full path and possibly a variable to get a unique filename, e.g.
Format String: \\mh\y\%artist%_%album%_%title%_%_cover_type%

ok i try what you posted but when i run the action it pull everything under the current folder i'm working on to network y and all i wish to have done is pull the jpg file that is associated to the file i'm working on to a folder withe artist name on the network y drive.

Please show us a screenshot from your format string used in your "Export Cover to File"-Action:

Do you want to treat jpg files outside the audio files?
Or do you want to deal with embedded pictures?
I do not think that jpg files are associated with audio files. It may happen that they are located in the same folder - but there is no association.
See here for supported file formats:

ok here the screen shot and i pull from jpg. files no emnedded files. this use to work.

What have you done to treat jpg files - as they are no supported file type for MP3tag?
An action of the type "Format value" for _DIRECTORY renames a folder and moves all the files in this folder to the new location. This cannot be limited to just one file type.
If you want to move individual files, then you have to rename each file individually but not the folder.

Thanks for all the replies. to bad this program doesn't support outside jpg files. i now have to do an extra step to save my cover.jpg files.so this program isn't universal as you claim to me. have a good day.

Could you show us where you found the claim

But you are probably right: MP3tag is also far from universal if you want to do word-processing or spreadsheet calculations or manage your tasks. It is a tag editor. And any odd file in file system is no tag.

This is not true.
Mp3tag can import such "outside jpg files" into the picture tag APIC of every selected song. There is an Action called "Import Cover from File".
And Mp3tag can export already embedded cover art from the picture tag APIC. There is an Action called "Export Cover to File"

To remember:
Mp3tag is a tagging software, not a jpg-picture-moving-app.

i understand that but i all i need ti action string to export the outside cover jpg. which i'm being told that can't happen. if this can happen please help with the string variable within the action export cover. I DON"T USE EMBEDDED ALBUM COVEER ART. Thank You

Do you see the

in MP3tag?
Actions usually only treat (visible) selected files.

Unfortunately without using an embedded cover, there is no action that can be taken for the image files independently. These are not media files that can be tagged and are not imported into mp3tag for these reasons. No different than expecting mp3tag to reassign the folder for pdf, doc, xls, or any other file format.

The only excpetion is to batch rename the entire enclosing folder that the media files are in.

It seems both of these solutions are not an option in your case. Perhaps there is a better file manager that can meet your needs that doesn't rely on embedded media tags and artwork to get there. There is no claim for mp3tag to be a universal file manager.

emmm...
it's a tagging program, and a dam good one at that. I've used it for 20 years to do just that. For moving files there's an even older piece of software which will move all your files no matter what type they be, try it it works, it's called explorer.

Merry Christmas everyone for those that celebrate it.

The format string could also contain a path, e.g.
Format string: d:\music\pictures\%artist%_%album%_%title%_%_cover_type%

Hello dp19, I understand that learning a new program is not easy, I had the same problem at the beginning, I needed help...

There are great people who volunteer their time on Mp3tag Community to help us...

You can ask the questions you want, you have to be patient, because some people do tests and look for documentation on the Mp3tag site, to give the help that people need...

Very important when you have questions and you have problems... Please provide images or videos of the problems you have, it really helps the community to find the right solution to your problem...

Florian is the creator of this great program, I have tried almost all the TAGS programs that exist, Mp3tag is the most complete program I have seen, there are updates every year and Florian gives us his program for free (PC), the last update he gave us is really TOP... :+1:
