Filenames should first of all be a problem of the file system.
Tag data in general is plain text without any formatting - and no option to modify that.
You could check a string from a tag field on this site and see if there are strange characters:
I put the file name into that link you gave me and it gave me this
U+1D400 : MATHEMATICAL BOLD CAPITAL A
U+1D41A : MATHEMATICAL BOLD SMALL A
U+1D42B : MATHEMATICAL BOLD SMALL R
U+1D428 : MATHEMATICAL BOLD SMALL O
U+1D427 : MATHEMATICAL BOLD SMALL N
U+0020 : SPACE [SP]
When i load it in MP3TAG Its shows it as bold and when i convert Filename into Tag it does copy it into the actual Tag.
So is there no way of like using actions to change all bold to normal???
You see that these are special characters where each appears to be bold.
And as these are valid unicode characters it is like asking whether a decimal "1" could be changed to a Roman "I" ...
Could you paste such a title to the forum, so that we could experiment a little?
I thought that it would be nice to see the original string in characters so that we others could experiment with it.
Perhaps there is a routine somewhere out there. In MP3tag there isn't as the characters seem to be valid.
A "string" is traditionally a sequence of characters, either as a literal constant or as some kind of variable. For example "ABCDE" is a string. Or %TITLE% is also a string.
Without seeing your real data in a screenshot, it is very hard to have a guess.
I would like you to copy the original title with the mathematical bold characters and past it as it is to a post in this forum.
Like that the rest of the world would have access to that what you currently see locally on your PC.
But in general: I doubt that there is any other way than to simply retype the title with a non-bold typeface.
See e.g. this thread which circled around special characters that should actually be kept (but weren't)
If it helps any, here are a few artists I have that are "bold" mathematical characters. This is how their names appeared when I found them on various streaming platforms. My player supports these characters so i kept them (I thought they looked kind of cool)
In my case I created an action that would replace "YLL GRYM" (for example) in the artist field with "πππ ππππ" On my phone I can't actually type those characters with my keyboard so I use a "shortcuts" feature of Samsung keyboard that via autocorrect does essentially the same thing.
It is possible to setup an action in reverse to replace all those bold characters with standard text however, that seems mighty tedious as there seem to be much more characters than just an artists name to replace in the case of @Absolut_Aussie
This Site is where I found a list of all these "Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols" with their descriptions.
I think this is a real problem - but more for the artists who choose names that cannot really be found. Why would you like to vanish in obscurity?
(see e.g. here:
If have no experience if fields like ALBUMARTISTSORT with a more ASCII representation would make such tracks easier accessible. Otherwise I doubt that a search for "YLL" would return "πππ"
I think this would be the only way to have these names searchable. Unfortunately the Sort fields are not well supported by many players, so this will have a negative experience for many.
