No metadata in flac files after cover has been added

Tremor,

How did you fix the metadate issue?

I have over the last two days started to experience the very strange issue of Windows losing the metadata of 13 songs as soon as I add an album cover and save the files. If I do not add an album cover, the metadata remains intact. BUT it only happens for these 13 FLAC files, and I have re-encoded them from WAV several times to check if the FLAC files are faulty but they are not and the other FLAC files I have encoded from WAV keep their metadata even after I add covers. Driving me crazy.

I would look at the image you are trying to use in this case. What is the image’s file size and type?

I considered that also, but have eliminated that being the issue. I have made the album cover myself, 3000x3000 pixels, two variations, PNG and JPG each is less than 16MB limit and I have always tried different covers that do not relate to the album I am writing the tags for and as soon as the tags save, no matter what album cover is being used, the same thing happens again.

Windows software has difficulties with pictures in flac files that are larger than 4MB (well below the standard limit)

see e.g. here:

That SOLVED my problem immediately!! I reduced the .jpg file size below 4MB and the tag data was still intact in Windows after the album cover was written into the file.

I am very thankful to you for that suggestion, I have been using MP3Tag for so many years and never had any issues at all and then this has been perplexing me for 2 days!:star_struck:
