Trying to save mp3 with cover art but i get error Cannot write file. Do you want to retry, when i click yes, it does not save and the same message keeps on appearing. V3.32. The image is JPG.
I also tried copying a cover from another file and selecting the paste cover option but i get the same error.
Please let us know which Windows version you are using.
Do you use any cloud service like DropBox or OneDrive or do you get this error on local mp3 files?
Yes, I am experiencing the same problem: On Windows 11 using the latest mp3tag v3.32. This was working for me about a month ago but now fails with all attempts to add any artwork to any mp3 file (i.e. jpg or png image files). MP3 Diags indicates: ID3V2 tag doesn’t have an APIC fram (which is used to store images). I have tried all of the different options available via File\Options\Tags\Mpeg but all have failed. I still get the following error message whenever attempting to save the image that I have pasted in (i.e. tried both from clipboard, or from png or jpg image files already saved to disk): “Cannot write file ……“.
Copied the cover art files to a local folder and attempted to load a jpg file and save it in Mp3tag. The save attempt still fails for me from a file in a local folder not on OneDrive.
Are we all using Windows? I think this has to do with a Windows update. Local files except for @elzmat work, cloud files seem to not. I highly doubt OneDrive and Dropbox coincidentally had the same error at the same time independently.
And is the audio file also stored in a local folder? Esp. one that does not get synchronized with a cloud program?
If everything is local then it would be advisable to check the files for problems.
It looks like the latest Windows Updates (Win 10 KB5073724 and Win 11 KB5074109) broke increasing file size via SetEndOfFile() on file systems backed by cloud storage (e.g., OneDrive or Dropbox).
I've implemented a workaround for this and ask you to test this version in case you're affected by this bug in Windows:
