Massive amounts of my video files are no longer recognizable. I am meticulous about converting filenames into tags for the video files (Artist, Title, TVSeason, TVEpisode), and with the latest release several of these video files are not displaying the bitrate, codec, or any of the meta tags mentioned before.
What can I do to troubleshoot this issue?
A sampling of the video files in question still play just fine (not corrupted). Other video files that are recognized can have their tags converted from the filename just as before. Read/Write permissions are the same as before. These are not new video files in my collection, they have been there for years and have displayed correctly within mp3tag until this latest release.
As the image may suggest, be assured that it's not just MKV files, but mp4's as well.
Thank you in advance for any help that you can provide.
So, it looks like I was simply not SEEING the bunk video files from previous versions all along! (I have about 20k episodes, so this list can make my eyes bleed after a while). I have to think this latest version is simply recognizing the files and letting me know something funky is going on with them. Even better!
Thank you for all of your support! The investigation continues.

So, I ran s04e01 and s04e02 through HandBrake. I just did the default preset for MKV (because it takes 1 second to write the tags compared to mp4s that have to re-write the whole file apparently, but I digress).
The new files show up seemingly fine and can have their filename converted to tags. Success!
I just wanted to throw this out there in case it made sense to anyone else. I realize there is probably a lot more troubleshooting to be done (which codec? how was it encoded? etc.) That I may not have the time or patience to really dive into.
I also wanted to mention, that if I click on one of the RED X files, the icon will absolutely change to the Orange Cone (VLC Application if you didn't know). I think that's a little weird that it changes. Sure, it's nice to know which application is associated with the file type: MKV, but if the file is not going to be recognized, then I like to see the RED X stay as the icon until the file is compatible.
