Custom button on toolbar?

Does anyone know if you can place a button on the toolbar to run an action? Would be a nice feature...

Cheers,
P

Yes, but currently you can't.

Yes, that would be a nice feature. It would also be nice to be able to add a button that executes the currently selected set of action groups so that the dialog box doesn't alway have to be opened to do this.

I hope to see a completely customizable toolbar some day.

Of course it would be useful

I've made that request myself a couple of months ago

Would be great!

Is this possible yet? OR is it possible to add something to the List Panel where I can perform a sort or script without having to go through the steps?

I don't know what you mean by that.
See the documentation on how to organize action groups:

I'd also look at setting up actions. Getting some actions created and mapped to keyboard shortcuts is a huge efficiency booster.

One quick note that's technically present but not explicitly called out in the documentation is that you can put the ampersand anywhere in your action name - it doesn't have to be before the first character. This lets you choose which character you want to use for a given action.

For example, I have an action to "Format Value "ALBUMARTIST": %artist% named as "A&rtist to Album Artist". This lets me hit Alt A R and all selected files will have the album artist filled in with the artist.

Another one I have is to embed the front cover named "Embed &Front Cover", which lets me use Alt A F. This lets me, in theory, embed each album's (previously downloaded) cover art for an artist's entire discography with three keystrokes.

There is an example and a tip in the documentation:

Pro tip : you can combine both tips, e.g., &Default values#Set &COMMENT to trigger the action group by pressing Alt+A plus D plus C.

Thanks, I'll take a look at this. I have used * as a wildcard for some thing I wanted to change, but it replaced everything with a star.

Great that MP3Tag has "Undo".

I look forward to testing your instructions.

If I understand correctly, this is like creating a macro (Excel/Word) that can be called upon to perform multiple actions with the click on a button or menu option?

If so, this is perfect for exactly what I want to do. Thanks!

Great point, yes. In my head I was explaining that the ampersand can be anywhere in the word, and is not constrained to be before the first character in any given word, but that's not what I actually said. Thank you for clarifying that.

Click on a button, not so much, at least in my relatively limited experience. Perform from a menu item, absolutely. From what I've seen, actions are incredibly powerful - you can perform multiple operations in a single action if you want, you can map them to Alt+A+[your desired key] shortcuts, and you can add submenus if you want to keep your menus visually organized and don't mind an extra keystroke or click. There are also action preset groups, which I haven't wrapped my head around yet.

Great explanation..thanks a bunch!
