Renaming tags fails - program freezes

I use mp3Tag for quite a while, but for some months now, renaming tags from filenames will freeze frequently.
I use MS10 home built 19045.5854

I don´t know if windows is the problem or that mp3tag changed somehow.

and I stopped renaming more then 30 files (in earlier times renaming with some 100 tracks hasn´t be a problem) :frowning:
is there anything I can do?
(I use the acual v3.30 version, but it startet to get difficult some versions before)

Thanks
Su

What kind of files are these?
Have you checked the files for problems?

Where do you store the files ? Locally or the network?
Does this happen to the same files repeatedly or do you see the behaviour with different (random) files?
Do you get any messages?

Yes, I checked it and with the old Godfatherprogram I was able to rename everything without the freezing effect

What kind of files do you try to rename? FLAC? mp3? MKV?
Are they stored locally on a internal SSD? External USB? NAS?

Do you have any anti-virus software running?

I don't know what that is.
Could you please answer also the other questions.

Plain mp3's
Local store, hdd
Just the annoying MS defender (but says nothing)

See if this helps:

The GodFather 0.89
Thats an old program for renaming

I will try it out:folded_hands: :flexed_biceps:

Do you mean "freeze forever and Mp3tag never returns and never finish the rename process" or is this only an annoying delay but works in the end?

I have to shutdown the computer, not even the taskmanager can end the process

And I just deactevated the real time protection, an exeption in the windows defender roles - and it still freezes :woman_shrugging:

Does this always happen to the same file or a different file all the time?

See e.g. this thread:

It doesn't matter which file, I tried 4 they were ok, but with my 100drets of tags, Id prefere an errormessage instead of fishing in the dark :face_without_mouth:
And as I said, with another tag manager it worked

What a pity, I love mp3 tag!

It seems that you all dont't have this problem and Im not sure if I'm willing for a new computer

It looks to me as though you cannot reproduce it also, it just happens randomly.
Also, we in the distance have to rely on everything you say as we cannot look over your shoulder.
I still suspect that it is a local problem of colliding applications that quarrel over changed files.
E.g. it was suspected once, that an anti-virus program may block process as renaming a lot of files may look like the attack of a malignant software.
So, you have to investigate, e.g. with the process explorer by sysinternals if there are programs that access the same files that MP3tag does.

Yea, I know what you mean.
The issues you recommended to check I did and unfortunatwly I was still able to reproduce the problem.

I will see, maybe I really try another computer for that.

Thank you all for your inputs.
Great to have a helpful community!

Can you please try this with the latest beta Mp3tag v3.30c?
